ISLAMABAD: Senior Federal Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday announced a comprehensive insurance package for the working journalists.
“The working journalists throughout the country will be provided life and health insurance from the Workers Welfare Fund,” he said while speaking at a luncheon meeting with officer-bearers of the National Press Club and senior journalists at his residence here on Thursday along with PML-Q Secretary General Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Information Secretary Senator Kamil Ali Agha.
Giving details of the package, Mushahid said the working journalists are facing a difficult situation in the existing circumstances as in the recent years dozens of journalists lost their lives while performing their professional duties. He said the scheme being introduced for journalists would cover the life, health and accidental insurance. “For this purpose, the Ministry of Human Resource Development working under Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain has been directed to initiate a package,” he added.
Senator Mushahid said the reporters, sub-editors, photographers and video cameramen would benefit from the insurance scheme to be launched with the assistance of the National Press Club. After this, he said, a pension fund would also be launched for the retired journalists.
