Peshawar, everyone has right to information, citizen have right to say anything and the government gives “freedom of speech “. This type of word and slogan has come everywhere in different forums. Every journalist shows himself as the true journalist and some newspaper/ TV channel / Radio become the champion of the press freedom. But no one knows how much the journalist/ news paper speak / write the truth through their news and article.
Countries like Pakistan, where newspapers hold of elite class and they used it for their own purpose. Freedom of speech and truth is not nor the priority of the owner of the newspaper / TV channel. Because these people earn through newspaper/ TV channel and it’s a become an industry and journalist are labors of the Journalism Industry.
So the Businessman did not take risks , that’s why everyone shows the “ controlled “ truth and they informed their labor ( journalists ) how much freedom of speech you have. That’s why all of the policies of the newspapers/ TV channel have limits and no one try to cross these limits.
I personally know the newspaper owners mostly from the Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa province and their love, passion with journalism / freedom of speech and truth. Most of the newspaper owners are businessmen. Some are working journalists but now they become businessmen.
They only thought about their business, how much their newspapers space become more effective and how much they earn. It’s the mind of the every newspaper owner in our province. The owner of the newspaper damn cares about the nation, how much truth/ freedom of speech people know.
The owner of the newspaper thought only about earning money , that’s why mostly news paper didn’t follow the international rule for the newspaper about the advertisement , nor they give priority to the general public issues. That’s why they give priority to a politician and a government official because these people give reward to the newspaper owner through advertisement and other benefits.
I remember the night when General Parvez Musharaf took over. I was attached to a local newspaper in Peshawar. Our newspaper complete and news editor check the newspaper finally before to publish. Suddenly the Pakistan army enters in our office and they cordon off the area and warned everyone “that no permission to out from neither office nor the newspaper will publish “.
The senior officer ranked Captain and he hold all the office. The situation of the army takes over till 3. am continuing, later on they checked and approved the newspaper and news editor sent the newspaper to publish.
That’s was the final day when I realize that how much power I have been a working journalist and when the Gun in front of the newspaper owner or editor then no one thought about Right to Information / Truth/ Freedom of expression.
The credit of the private TV channel goes to Parvez Musharaf who’s open the way to private TV channel. Electronic media show the mass problem and real face of everyone even so called journalist and leader of the Pakistani society , but as the owner of the newspaper mostly businessman , that’s why they only thought about money. How to get more money, that’ starting a new race between TV channels.
Most TV channels hire the actors for their differentiation program and they act like journalists, baseless new goes on air. Breaking news made a new race between TV channels, Rating of TV channel also a new game in Pakistani private TV industry.
The owners of the TV channel forget the public issues, 60 percent program of different TV channel related to Politics and politician. The owner gets benefit from these people and they are destroying the nation. The program goes on air through the demand of politician and they show what the politician wants not masses.
Seven year back boom of the private FM radio channel came in Pakistan especially in tribal area , it’s a good sign because Radio waves go everywhere , but strange things which affect not only the freedom of speech / truth. Most Radio Channel controlled by government and they didn’t give any news against the government.
I know the tribal journalist who’s attached to the Khyber Radio, which works in Khyber agency, the tribal area. Journalist gives news about tribal people whose protest against the government and demand to stop the shelling on innocent tribal people. The journalist files the story which goes on air.
After that the FATA Secretariat removes him from his job, where he works as journalist/ producer. Because the journalist shows the true picture and he lost his jobs. The provincial minister of information everywhere address and show himself as the champion of the press freedom / freedom of expression , but in his government the journalist still facing the problem.
